Volunteer Program: 
Description:  Across Languages Translation & Interpretation Service is an internationally-recognized charitable non-profit agency. Providing services within London and the surrounding area, we exist to eliminate language barriers to communication between people of diverse languages and cultures. Our core services are interpretation, translation, interpreter language skills test development and assessment, interpreter professional development and training, and intercultural communications training. Serving on Across Languages’ Board of Directors is an excellent opportunity for you to enhance your strategic leadership skills while playing a valuable role in establishing our future success. Your 3-year commitment as a voluntary Board member will normally consist of regular attendance at monthly Board meetings (excl July and August), the Annual General Meeting and 2-half-day planning retreats per year. You are encouraged to participate in committee or taskforce work following a suitable orientation period. The Board is collectively responsible for ensuring the needs of our community are met through strategic planning, policy setting and monitoring the delivery of effective and efficient services. In this role your team building, training, leadership, financial management, public relations and marketing skills will enable the diverse needs of our multicultural community to be met by the Executive Director and her staff. Assets to your application: • previous Board experience • sensitivity to cross-cultural issues and experience in relating to multicultural groups • multilingual experience • work experience or education in other countries • Knowledge of and/or involvement in a professional area such as accounting, business administration, communications and marketing, health care, human resources, information technology, law, project management.
